Heads Should Roll Over Newburn Flood

Newcastle’s only independent party has today demanded that residents of an estate in Newburn are compensated for a disaster that has also brought misery to businesses and numerous households in  and around Newburn.

John Gordon, Newcastle Community First Party’s Newburn spokesman (pictured left) who attended a heated public meeting, believes the houses on the development off Walbottle Road should never have been built.

John said: “I was disgusted at the failure to answer questions posed by local residents.

“No one can control the weather but the harsh reality is that this that serious questions need to be answered about the failure of the planning system, how the culvert has been maintained and why homes were built on an unsuitable site.

“This seems like a classic case of apparent council incompetence and corporate greed. While the sharp suited people sitting on the top table go back to their comfortable homes, the people who bought these houses in good faith have been left homeless.

“I am demanding that steps are taken to compensate the residents. Heads should roll for causing this disaster.”

John has also called for Newcastle City Council to exempt the homes affected by the Newburn flood and repay council tax paid since April 2012.
