Clean Out Labour
Labour has revealed plans for a spring clean of Newcastle ahead of the Great Exhibition of the North.
The £1million plan was revealed as more than half of residents who took part in a survey recently said they were not happy with the state of street cleaning in the city.
Senior Labour councillor Nick Kemp said: “The Great Exhibition of the North will attract thousands of visitors to the city and so we want to begin now to get the city looking its best.”
Local campaigner Tracey Mitchell said: “Why did Labour need a survey to tell them that streets are dirty across the city? We told them that would be a result of cutting the street cleaning budget and removing litter bins!”
Residents of West Denton have complained about the state of Westerhope Park. Local people complain they feel abandoned by the council and Denton councillors.
Jason Smith added: “Labour councillors are not contactable when residents are contacting them. We need visible councillors to stand up for local people and make sure action is taken.
“Our city needs a spring clean but what it needs more is a Geordie Spring to clear out the councillors who are failing our city especially here in Denton and Westerhope Ward.”
